Schools: ISB-Seattle's goal in working with schools is to correct misinformation about Islam found in textbooks as well as give a human face to the fastest growing faith in America. We believe the most effective way to accomplish this participating in the existing public education of Islam in the context of World History and Social Studies. We offer face-to-face interaction between Muslims and school children and teachers.

By invitation from teachers or schools, the speakers give presentations, which combine a formal speech using either transparencies or an LCD projector, followed by an informal interaction with the students. Beginning with an introduction to the Islamic greeting, “Assalamu alaikum”, we cover a variety of topics such as Islamic beliefs and practices, Muslim population around the world, including America; and, Islamic holidays and celebrations. Students and teachers are free to ask questions of the speakers. In addition, speakers will tailor their presentations to cover broader topics such as social issues for American teens, women in Islam, stereotypes and perceptions/misconceptions, and other issues of interest.

Diversity training: ISB-Seattle’s goal for working with government agencies, including law enforcement, fire departments, parks departments, and others, is to ensure the safety and security of Muslims. Our strategy for achieving this goal is to these agencies with Islam and Muslim culture by teaching protocols for interaction with Muslims.

Churches and inter-faith presentations: The Islamic Speakers Bureau-Seattle aims to promote and strengthen interfaith dialogue by offering introductory lectures, round table discussions, or workshops on Islam at various religious institutions within the Puget Sound area.

This activity not only reinforces the common beliefs of different faiths but also helps people of different religious denominations understand the beliefs and practices of their Muslim neighbors, colleagues, classmates or friends.

Islam has a clear track record of tolerant relations with other faiths. From its earliest days in seventh century Arabia, Islam co-existed with a multitude of diverse beliefs. The Islamic Speakers Bureau hopes to continue this trend of tolerance and understanding by sharing information about the basic tenets of our faith with your religious community - be it at a church, a synagogue, a community center or a temple.
